Open Rank Professor of Rhetoric and Composition

The Department of Humanities at Michigan Technological University invites applications for an Open Rank Professor of Rhetoric and Composition to begin Fall 2022. Candidates should have a successful record of teaching and scholarly work in rhetoric and composition. The department is particularly interested in approaches to writing studies that contribute to our understanding of technology and communication in the public interest. We seek candidates with research interests and expertise in some combination of the following areas: digital rhetoric and public discourse, rhetoric and human-computer interaction and/or human-centered design, comparative and cultural rhetorics, environmental communication, multimodal composition, and rhetoric and social justice. Desirable areas of research and experience include WPA administration, WAC/WID pedagogies related to STEM fields, and experience mentoring graduate students in the field of rhetoric and composition. 

The successful candidate will strengthen offerings in Rhetoric and Composition in our Rhetoric, Theory, and Culture PHD.  The department offers doctoral and master’s degrees in the Rhetoric, Theory, and Culture program and undergraduate major degrees in Scientific and Technical Communication; Communication, Culture, and Media; and English. The usual tenure-track teaching load is 2 courses (6 hrs.) per semester.
