The Literature and Creative Writing Program at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to appoint up to three candidates to a multi-year visiting professor position in Literature (open-rank, Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) starting on September 1, 2022.

The ideal candidate will have a solid grounding in the study of African, Asian, European, or Anglophone literatures. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach in more than one geographical area and work comparatively across multiple languages and literary traditions. Candidates whose work engages with topics such as translation, migration, and diasporic writing are particularly welcome to apply.

The successful applicant should be able to address the relationship between literary study and creative practice and the diversity of forms of literary and cultural expression, across local, regional, and global contexts.

The candidate should be able to teach at least two of the required courses of the program in Literature and Creative Writing at NYUAD and create collaborations and synergies with the research of our faculty.

We seek faculty candidates from multiple academic cultures and candidates who have experience or evidence of the potential for success in teaching a diverse population of students, including first generation students, students from diverse racial and ethnic groups, and students from across the world.  

Teaching load for the year is 4 courses (typically 2 in Fall, 2 in Spring) plus capstone thesis advising. 

PhD in a related discipline and evidence of teaching excellence is desirable.

Appointments are tenable for up to 3 years. Visiting faculty (if not retired) must be able to obtain a leave of absence and a letter of no objection from their home institution.

The NYUAD academic calendar typically starts the last week of August and ends in the last week of May. Candidates must be willing to relocate to the UAE in time for the beginning of the semester.
