The English Department at Albright College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Rhetoric and Writing Studies or in Creative Writing. We especially encourage applicants from traditionally underrepresented groups, especially African-American and Latino-American scholar teachers.

 

Successful candidates will teach a 3/3 load, with 4 courses per year in first-year writing and up to 2 upper-level writing courses. Successful candidates will play an active role in mentoring Albright students, will engage in institutionally funded scholarly research, and will contribute to academic service.

Roughly one half of incoming first-year students identify as Latino and/or African-American, and about one half are first-generation students. We in the Albright College English department are deeply committed to recruiting faculty who reflect the diversity of the Albright College student body.

Albright College is a small liberal-arts college that offers a challenging curriculum to a very diverse student body. Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Rhetoric and Composition or related field; or, an MFA in Creative Writing
  • Deep understanding of the Latino and/or African-American student experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing equity and inclusion, sensitivity to the needs of culturally diverse and marginalized groups, and ability to work with students holding a range of worldviews

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of critical race theory, anti-racist pedagogy, or cultural rhetorics
  • Evidence of positive contributions to team projects and working environments
