Assistant Professor of English (tenure track)

The Department of English and the Institute of African American Studies at the University of Georgia invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, to begin in August 2022. The successful candidate will teach classes in British Eighteenth-Century Literature and the Black Atlantic and will develop and teach new English courses in the long and broad eighteenth century, including classes to be cross-listed with African American Studies. The holder of this position will contribute to the undergraduate and graduate programs in the English department; to the major, minor, and graduate certificate in the Institute for African American Studies; and to our ongoing efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the department and college. The standard teaching load for the position is 2/2.

Candidates should have a PhD in English or a related discipline in hand by August 2022, along with significant evidence of scholarly promise and teaching excellence. Expertise in the global or transnational eighteenth century, imperialism and colonialism, and/or the history and literature of slavery and abolition will be especially welcome.
