The Department of English, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Creative Writing: Fiction at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, to commence July 1, 2022.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, rank, and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

A terminal MA or MFA degree in Creative Writing or related field, or a PhD in English Literature, Creative Writing, or a related field by the start of the appointment is required, along with a demonstrated record of creative production, and a record of excellence or promise of excellence in creative research, production, and teaching. Applicants should have a clearly articulated program of future creative research and work. Additional subspecialties in creative nonfiction and genre fiction are welcome.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in outstanding, innovative, and, as appropriate, externally funded creative production at the highest level. Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence or promise of excellence of a recognized international calibre as demonstrated in: the cover letter and writing sample; a record of current or forthcoming fiction writing from recognized publishers or in recognized collections, magazines, or journals; significant speaking or reading engagements; honorary appointments; awards and accolades; evidence of service in arts or publishing organizations; educational engagement and outreach; and strong recommendations from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching will be provided through a teaching dossier, which may include a statement of teaching philosophy, copies of teaching evaluations, evidence of pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning, and sample syllabi. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development and launch of the department’s new first-year undergraduate Creative Writing curriculum and to other curricular initiatives; to teach at the introductory, intermediate, advanced, and graduate levels (including the Graduate Diploma in Creative Writing); and to become involved in the administrative coordination of the program and its Creative Writing Reading Series.  The successful candidate will be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
