Assistant Professor of the Practice, English

Fairfield University’s Core Writing Program (including the Writing Across the Curriculum/Writing in the Disciplines Signature Element) invites applications for at least one full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of the Practice to start September 1, 2022. Our exciting, recently revised writing curriculum requires students to complete four writing-intensive classes, including a new Introduction to Rhetoric and Composition course (a hybrid of WAC and “Writing about Writing” approaches).

Core Writing Assistant Professors of the Practice typically teach a 3/3 course load in Core Writing, which reflects reassigned time for serving either as a Writing Across the Curriculum Consultant or the Assistant Director of Core Writing. Successful candidates will be committed to excellence in teaching and academic service and will demonstrate thorough knowledge of Rhetoric and Composition and Writing Across the Curriculum. Salary is commensurate with highest degree earned and is competitive.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition is preferred. ABDs are also considered. Evidence of exemplary teaching of college composition courses is required. Understanding of contemporary best practices in the teaching of rhetoric and composition and Writing Across the Curriculum is a must.

Additional Information:

Experience in the research and/or teaching of cultural rhetorics, translingual writing, disability rhetorics, and writing for the health sciences are additional areas of expertise that would be welcomed.

Fairfield University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, committed to excellence through diversity, and, in this spirit, particularly welcomes applications from women, persons of color, and members of other historically underrepresented groups. The university will provide reasonable accommodations to all qualified individuals with a disability.
