Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Digital Culture and Design position, to begin August 15, 2022. Housed in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts’ Department of English, Digital Culture and Design is an undergraduate, digital humanities program that situates, at its core, critical making, collaboration, and innovative, inclusive pedagogy.

We welcome applications from scholars who have experience teaching undergraduate courses within the digital humanities, a field that we understand expansively to include digital media and culture studies, internet studies, interactive media and storytelling, video game studies, sound studies, social media, critical code studies, and/or archives/information management. We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching and research in the digital humanities demonstrates interdisciplinary engagement with critical race and ethnicity studies, gender and sexuality studies, disability studies, and/or post- or de-colonial studies. Candidates who will contribute to the diversity of our faculty are especially encouraged to apply.

Teaching responsibilities include lower-division major courses in digital media and digital storytelling. Upper-division teaching responsibilities include courses in digital project development, such as Interactivity and Culture, Digital Resources in the Humanities, and/or Social Media. Opportunities exist for collaboration on grant projects and development.

Qualified candidates will have a PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Digital Humanities, Digital Media, English, or another relevant humanities field with a specialization in digital humanities; an established scholarly agenda in digital and humanistic studies; a strong record of teaching digital creativity courses; and a clear perspective on how their professional skills or experience will enhance campus diversity and equity efforts.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience teaching digital humanities at the undergraduate level; teach and/or participate in critical making work; and have experience working and collaborating with students on digital humanities-focused research projects.
