Instructor or Lecturer of Technical Communication

Job Description:

The Department of English at the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH), invites applications for an instructor or lecturer of Technical Communication. This is a 9-month regular, non-tenure-earning position and is expected to begin in August 2022. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a 4/4 teaching load of both face-to-face and online courses. The primary academic assignment for this position will be to teach introductory courses in technical communication, and there will be additional opportunities to teach 4000-level courses in the Technical Communication track in the Department of English.

Minimum Qualifications:

An M.A. (for an instructor), or Ph.D. (for a lecturer) in English, Technical Communication, or a related field from an accredited institution by the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience in related technical fields such as usability studies/UX, scientific/medical writing, engineering writing, grant writing, and business communication.

-Three years of experience teaching Technical Communication.

-Experience teaching both theory and applied technology or a willingness to learn about areas, such as, integrating low-stakes, free software like Piktochart or Canva as well as professional tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Agile methodologies, or publication software into class assignments.

-Professional experience as a technical writer, project manager, or editor and interest in fostering community and industry partnerships.
