Assistant Teaching Professor of English, Theatre, and Humanities

Penn State Harrisburg's School of Humanities invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of English, Theatre, and Humanities. This is a full-time, 36-week, limited term (single year), non-tenure line appointment starting Fall of 2022 with excellent possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will combine a strong background in English literature, especially Shakespeare, theatre, and humanities. Specific job responsibilities include teaching courses such as ENGL 444: Shakespeare, HUM 100N: Foundations in the Humanities, and HUM 200N Explorations in the Humanities. Other courses are possible in the school's Bachelor of Humanities degree in English, B.A. in Humanities, and Theatre minor, as well as general education courses in arts and humanities, based on the instructor's background and interests. The standard teaching load for the position is four courses in the fall semester, and four courses in the spring semester.

A Ph.D. in English literature or theatre (or a related discipline) and experience in teaching higher education courses is required. ABDs may apply, but they must have their terminal degree completed by July 30, 2022.

Preferred candidates will have a record of teaching Shakespeare, theatre, and humanities in higher education, as well as the ability to teach these subjects in multicultural contexts to students of diverse backgrounds. Preferred candidates will also have a record of scholarship engaged with their teaching of Shakespeare, theatre, and humanities.
