Instructor / Assistant Professor of English

Frostburg State University, Department of English and Foreign Languages, seeks applications for an Instructor / Assistant Professor of English specializing in First-Year Writing and Advanced Composition. This full-time, tenure-track position will begin in Fall 2022. We encourage applications from underrepresented groups. The Department of English and Foreign Languages at FSU provides writing instruction for all majors through the General Education Program. We foster a welcoming, collegial, and collaborative professional environment for all faculty.

Responsibilities:  Teach 12 credits per semester in first year and advanced composition including writing in the social sciences. Opportunities exist for teaching courses in the successful candidate’s specialty. Faculty will participate in ongoing department conversation about best practices in writing instruction, assessment, and program redesign. Other duties may include advising and mentoring undergraduate students. Scholarship and service are important components of annual evaluations and are required for tenure and promotion.

 

Minimum Qualifications: ABD or Ph.D. in English, Composition Studies, or Rhetoric and Composition. The successful candidate will have research interests and background in current theory and practices in composition studies and first year writing pedagogy.

 

If selected candidate is ABD, they will be hired at the rank of Instructor, with the requirement that the candidate finish the doctoral degree within the first year of employment. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: Research and teaching interests in African American rhetoric, critical theories of race and writing instruction, translingual writing, and basic writing pedagogy. Experience with underserved populations, first-generation college students, or TESEOL is a plus.
