Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor (or Professor) of Italian in the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages at the University of Oxford. The successful candidate will also be appointed to a Tutorial Fellowship at St Hugh’s College and to Stipendiary Lecturerships at New College and Oriel College.
We intend to appoint a candidate with research interests in modern Italian Studies – either twentieth-/twenty-first-century Italian literature, or the Italian literature of migration, or both. An ability to deliver high-quality undergraduate teaching (lectures, tutorials, and seminars) in both of these fields is essential, as is evidence of excellence in postgraduate teaching and supervision. An ability to contribute to teaching in film and/or the capacity to teach Dante at undergraduate level will be an advantage. Candidates should have native or near-native competence in both English and Italian.
The main duties of the post are to:
- carry out research at an international level;
- participate in the administration of the Faculty, and the administration and governance of the College;
- participate fully in Admissions and Outreach activities; and
- teach, supervise, and examine undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Further particulars, which include details of the application procedure, can be obtained from St Hugh's College website (Vacancies - St Hugh's College (ox.ac.uk).
The combined University and College salary will be within a range £48,835 - £65,574 per annum, plus additional College pensionable benefits (including a Housing Allowance (£9,701 p.a.). An allowance of £2,846 p.a. would be payable upon award of Full Professor title.
Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford. All applicants will be judged on merit, according to the selection criteria.
Only applications received before 12.00 midday (GMT) on Thursday 20th January 2022 can be considered. Presentations and interviews have been scheduled to take place on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th March 2022. The anticipated start date is 1 October 2022.
Enquiries about the post should be addressed either to the Chair of the Modern Languages Faculty, Professor Almut Suerbaum (firstname.lastname@example.org), and/or to the Senior Tutor of St Hugh’s College, Professor Robert Vilain (email@example.com).
