Faculty Non-Tenure Track-9 Mo. (American Sign Language, #999354)

Opportunity at Kent State Univ. for a full-time non-tenure-track Lecturer or Assistant Professor of American Sign Language (ASL) to begin August 2022. Master’s Degree required by date of appointment; Master’s in ASL or ASL-related field (Deaf Studies, Linguistics, etc.) preferred. Teaching experience required; university teaching experience preferred. Potential for excellence in teaching is essential; documented involvement with the Deaf Community is desirable. Documented proficiency in ASL is required via score report of Advanced or higher on the SLPI, or Level 3 or higher on the ASLPI. The successful candidate will teach a full range of ASL courses in a B.A. in ASL as a Foreign Language degree program, particularly courses in Deaf culture and ASL linguistics. The program is primarily for hearing students who are studying ASL as a foreign language or for majors in one of several programs on campus preparing students to work in the Deaf World. Position requires the ability to work in a multi-language department that includes faculty and students in translation and language pedagogy, as well as ability to work with faculty in the College of Education.
