Teaching Faculty - Department of Humanities and Social Sciences - Rhetoric and Composition

The Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences Department (HASS) at the Colorado School of Mines is looking for a non-tenure-track Teaching Assistant Professor who can teach Composition and Rhetoric or a related field. Teaching faculty at Colorado School of Mines fully participate in department and university governance and have opportunities for promotion.

The successful candidate will teach required HASS courses (primarily HASS 100 Nature and Human Values, a first-year writing course focused on environmental and engineering ethics) and elective courses in Communication, Technical Writing, Rhetorical Approaches, Rhetorical Analysis, and more, depending on the particular expertise of the candidate. Candidates with expertise in the following areas are highly encouraged to apply: Composition and Rhetoric, Communication Studies, and Technical Writing. Candidates should be prepared to develop innovative classes using a variety of delivery methods. We are particularly interested in candidates with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching first-year writing.

Communication skills are central to almost every element of Mines students' professional lives, from making proposals, writing reports, to working on teams, so a faculty member who brings expertise in this area will have the broadest impact on the Mines mission.

  • The candidate must hold a PhD (or equivalent terminal degree) or a Masters degree with 5 or more years professional experience in Composition and Rhetoric, Communications Studies, or Technical Writing.
  • Experience teaching Composition and Rhetoric at the university level.
