Lecturer III

The Sweetland Center for Writing in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan invites applications for one full-time (100%) LEO Lecturer III position to begin August 29, 2022. This is a university year, renewable, non-tenure track position with an expected initial contract of four years, contingent on performance, programmatic need, availability of work, and funding. This position includes one course release per fall and winter terms to direct the Peer Writing Consultant Program including, but not limited to, conducting weekly staff meetings, supporting professional development of peer writing consultants, collaborating with a wide range of campus partners, and conducting periodic assessments of the program. Primary instructional duties are expected to include teaching two, sequential peer tutor training courses and working one-to-one with undergraduate and graduate students in Writing Workshop. Additional courses will vary, depending on the successful candidate’s training and interests.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in writing studies or closely related field, extensive background in writing studies and writing center theory and practice, extensive knowledge of peer tutoring theory and pedagogy, experience in one-to-one writing instruction, experience training undergraduate peer writing consultants, experience with writing center administration, and experience enhancing campus diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion. Desirable qualifications include experience in one or more of the following areas: antiracism and social justice in writing studies, multimodal and multimedia writing, community writing, multilingual writers, writing across the curriculum and/or writing in the disciplines.  Excellence in teaching will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.
