French Instructor

This fixed-term three-year position requires superior linguistic proficiency in French language. A Master’s Degree in French/Francophone cultures, studies, linguistics, literature, or education is required, but a Ph.D. is preferred. There is the possibility of the fixed-term position being converted to tenure track after the initial three-year appointment. The instructor’s field of specialization remains open, with a preference for expertise or interdisciplinary perspective on Afro-Caribbean, African lit/cultural studies, and/or gender and queer theory. This instructor would teach five or six courses each academic year in introductory through intermediate French, with the expectation of offering at least one upper-level course in English, provide support for Juniata’s French exchange offerings, organize the weekly French conversation table, conduct interviews for the Eagles Abroad French scholarships, and facilitate a series of cultural events each semester at the Global Commons.

  •  Teach five or six courses each academic year 
  •  Design and teach courses in both English and French, including French language and content classes 
  •  Offer at least one upper-level course in English depending on the instructor’s field of specialization
  •  Organize six yearly co-curricular, cultural events at the Global Commons, a living and learning  community open to all  students interested in international issues, languages, and culture
  •  Organize the weekly French conversation table
  •  Interview prospective students seeking scholarships for French studies

Position Qualifications:

  • Native or near-native fluency in French and English 
  • Master’s Degree in French/Francophone cultures, studies, linguistics, literature, or education
  • Experience designing and teaching university-level French language courses
