Visiting Assistant Professor of Film & Francophone Studies

St. Lawrence University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Film & Francophone Studies, with a specialization in any non-European francophone area, and the ability to teach all levels of French language. This position has the potential to be renewed for additional year(s). The successful candidate will teach 3 courses per semester, including French language courses, topics in Francophone cinema in both English and French, as well as Introduction to Film Studies to support St. Lawrence’s interdisciplinary program in Digital Media & Film. We are especially interested in candidates with a focus on the critical study of gender, sexuality, and race in cinematic representation and a commitment to exploring the changing meaning and function of cinema in relation to emerging digital technologies. The position is a dual appointment between the new program in Digital Media & Film and the Department of World Languages, Cultures and Media.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment.
  • Native or near-native fluency in French.
  • Experience teaching French language and Francophone cinema at the undergraduate level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialization in Francophone (non-European) cinema.
  • Interdisciplinary approaches to teaching film and media studies.
