Visiting Assistant Professor of German and Film Studies

St. Lawrence University invites applications for a one-year, full-time visiting assistant professor position in German and Film Studies to begin August 2022. Highest consideration will be given to applicants with demonstrated specializations in German-language cinema and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching film and media studies. The successful candidate will teach 3 courses per semester, including the full-year sequences in Elementary and Intermediate German, a special topics course in German cinema (in English), and a core film studies course, either History of Cinema or Introduction to Film Studies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in German Studies or a related field is preferred at the time of appointment, but ABDs may also be considered. 
  • Native or near-native fluency in German is required.
  • Experience teaching German language and culture at the undergraduate level. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialization in German-language cinema.
  • Interdisciplinary approaches to teaching film and media studies.
