Lecturer in Spanish

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at The University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a full-time lecturer appointment beginning Fall 2022. Ideal candidates will be serious educators and scholars with excellent teaching skills. Candidates must be willing to teach courses in traditional and online formats as needed. Prior online teaching training and experience is a plus, but is not required to apply. The successful candidate will primarily teach undergraduate courses in first- and second-year Spanish, but will also assist in staffing general WLC courses and select upper-division Spanish courses depending on the candidate’s area of expertise and experience. Ideal candidates will be able to teach in one or more of the following areas: business and/or medical Spanish, Hispanic cultures, Hispanic literature, or these courses taught in English: International Cinema, Seminar on Comparative Languages and Cultures, or Global Studies (such as GS 200: Global Systems and Cultures). Qualified candidates with backgrounds in business or interpretation/translation, or with fluency in multiple languages are encouraged to apply. The candidate hired for this position will also be expected to participate in departmental service such as sponsoring the Spanish Club or the Phi Sigma Iota Honor Society, supervising interns, and representing the department at outreach events. 

The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers B.A. degrees in French, German, Spanish, and Russian, and a Foreign Language and International Trade B.A. with tracks in each of those languages. The department also offers minors and undergraduate certificates in the four major languages along with lower division courses in Arabic and Japanese. Faculty are committed to excellence in teaching, research and service, and contribute to interdisciplinary minors within the college.

The regular teaching load is four courses (12 credit hours) per semester and may include both online and traditional formats. The preferred qualification is a Ph.D. in Spanish but the minimum qualification for the position is an M.A. in Spanish, or at least 18 credit hours of graduate course work in Spanish if the candidate’s degree is in a closely related field.
