Albright College seeks a visiting NEH Endowed Chair in the Humanities for the 2022-2023 academic year, with option to extend through to the 2024-2025 academic year.  Applicants must align with one of the College’s humanities disciplines (history, religious studies, philosophy, communications, women & gender studies, English, and language and literature in any language). The College is seeking a candidate whose work in some way explores the African diaspora in the Americas through history, culture and/or media. Interdisciplinary approaches are particularly encouraged. The successful candidate will also participate in faculty conversation toward developing anti-racist pedagogies.

 

Rank is open, and junior scholars are welcome to apply. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or expect its completion in academic year 2021-2022. Ideal candidates will have a strong record of scholarship or promise of the same. Evidence of successful teaching is also essential.  Candidates must demonstrate ability for working with a diverse student body and commitment to building an inclusive and equitable academic community, as described in Albright College's Inclusivity and Equity Statement.

 

Responsibilities for the position include facilitating conversations regarding curricular and grant development extending from the identified fields of interest through interdisciplinary connections with Albright faculty, coordinating faculty professional development events, teaching at least one course per semester in related areas (ideally three courses per academic year), providing at least one public lecture per semester, and being available to guest-lecture in other courses. Funding for professional development and research is available.
