Head of Systems and Networks

The Modern Language Association is currently seeking a professional to use their technical knowledge to manage the IT infrastructure within our organization and supervise our system and networks unit.  

Responsibilities

  • Manages and acts as primary liaison and technical expert with systems hardware, software, and support vendors

  • Designs, implements, and promotes infrastructure and network security

  • Collaborates with colleagues to architect, execute, and promote organizational IT security

  • Ensures the organization has system architectures and capabilities that support current and anticipated needs for the effective use of information as a competitive advantage

  • Oversees all aspects of telephony, Mac, PC, and LAN-based hardware and software, including purchasing, installation, maintenance, and support

  • Architects, installs, upgrades, and maintains local and cloud based network servers, routers, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity plans

  • Contributes to interdepartmental processes relating to quality assurance

  • Facilitates service delivery by upgrading or replacing systems as necessary to expedite processing while maintaining and improving functionality

  • Regularly and effectively communicates the status of projects managed to colleagues on staff

  • Forecasts system needs and budgetary requirements

  • Ensures the establishment, implementation, testing, and continual refinement of the organization’s disaster recovery and business continuity plans  

 

 Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or a related field

  • Minimum of five years’ technical experience with configuring, maintaining, and securing Cloud IaaS

  • Minimum of two years’ experience with cyber security, ISO27000, and NIST

  • Minimum of five years developing, implementing, and testing business continuity and disaster recovery scenarios

  • Strong customer service skills and mentality

  • Minimum of two years working in a DevSecOps team with automation experience

  • Minimum of five years’ technical experience implementing, managing, and supporting a Windows and Linux environment

  • Working knowledge of Windows AD, GPO, PowerShell, and Scripting

  • Minimum of five years’ technical experience implementing and managing a complex network infrastructure

  • Minimum of five years managing an IT service desk

  • Minimum of five years’ experience architecting and implementing data driven monitoring

This is a full-time position requiring at least two days on-site each week at the MLA offices in downtown New York City. Salary is commensurate with experience.
