Assistant Professor, English Composition & Rhetoric

The Department of Literature and Language at Mercy College (NY) seeks applications for an Assistant Professor with specialization in English Composition and Rhetoric to begin September 2022 on a multiple year track (4-4 teaching load). Primary teaching responsibilities include first-year composition courses, including implementation of best practices in acceleration and co-requisite models. Teaching areas may include upper-level writing courses for the English program’s new concentration in Writing & Rhetoric, depending on the candidate’s qualifications, interests, and experience. A complete application will include a cover letter addressing the applicant’s qualifications; curriculum vitae; a diversity statement; the names and contact information for at least three professional references; and copies of graduate transcripts (unofficial copies are acceptable for the purpose of application). Finalists will be required to submit three current letters of reference. Application deadline: February 13, 2022.
 
Knowledge of current best practices in composition pedagogy and online writing instruction principles is expected. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in student-centered undergraduate teaching as well as scholarly achievement in composition studies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate evidence of intellectual leadership in first-year writing including curriculum design. The candidate will be encouraged to develop new initiatives around writing across the curriculum to align with the college’s General Education mission. Candidate will also be expected to assist with mentoring of graduate student Teaching Assistants and adjunct faculty.
