Professor of Portuguese Studies

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Brigham Young University invites applications for a Continuing Faculty Status-track position (analogous to tenure-track). Initial rank will be consistent with qualifications and experience. The position requires a PhD in foreign/second language education, second language pedagogy, Portuguese or Brazilian literature, cultural studies, linguistics, applied linguistics, or translation /interpretation studies. Foreign degrees are acceptable. The required degree must be completed by the start date. The successful candidate must speak and write Portuguese and English at the ACTFL Superior level. Duties and expectations include teaching a variety of courses in the Portuguese BA and MA programs, supervising undergraduate Portuguese language courses, advising undergraduate and graduate students and mentoring them in research initiatives and projects, producing scholarly works or other texts appropriate to the discipline in peer-reviewed venues in a timely manner, and fulfilling administrative and service assignments in accordance with department and university needs.
