Senior Instructor I or Senior Instructor II - Spanish

The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) invites applications for a Senior Instructor I or Senior Instructor II of Spanish to help foster new directions that will attract both heritage speakers and second language learners. The ideal candidate will be able to teach beginning through advanced level Spanish both on campus and online. Ability to teach courses in Oral Interpretation, Professional Spanish and/or Spanish for Heritage Learners is of particular interest. 
 
This is a 9-month, full-time, fixed term position beginning September 2022. 
 
EOU is looking for an individual with a dynamic classroom approach and an engaging proficiency-based pedagogy that can serve diverse populations of college students. The ideal candidate will bring native or near native fluency and experience living or working abroad. 
 
The Spanish program currently offers a minor, both online and on campus, which supports the institutional graduate requirements in foreign language for the Bachelors of Arts degree.

 

Minimum Requirements

-A Master’s in Spanish or related field. 
 
-Teaching experience at the college level, with a strong commitment to experiential learning pedagogies and to serving underserved student populations both online and face-to-face. 
 
-Teaching, professional experience, and/or scholarship appropriate to the courses needed. 
 
-Native or near native fluency in Spanish is expected. 
 
-Demonstrated experience working with rural, first-generation, and online adult student populations, with a strong commitment to a pedagogy of access, equity and diversity. 
 
-Experience with ACTFL Oral Proficiency Testing. 
 
-Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment. 
 
-In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Eastern Oregon University will not sponsor applicants for employment visas.

 

Preferred Qualifications

-Ph.D. in Spanish or related field required to be considered for Senior Instructor II rank. ABD candidates on schedule to complete PhD requirements on or before September 2022 are encouraged to apply.

-Experience with Latinx Cultures of the U.S. or ability to offer courses related to Latinx Cultures
 
-Certification in Oral Interpretation. 
 
-Online teaching professional development, credentials and/or certification.
