The Department of French and Italian Studies at the University of Washington (Seattle) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible position in French at the Assistant Professor level with an anticipated start date of Sept 2020. This position holds an annual service appointment of nine months (Sept 16 to June 15). Candidates will be expected to teach and engage in research that could include the following: translation, digital humanities and textual scholarship, French in a transnational or global perspective, and language use and acquisition. University of Washington faculty participate in teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will maintain an active research agenda, develop courses and teach language and content at all levels in the undergraduate and graduate programs, foster connections with other programs and fields in and outside the UW, actively participate in service to the university and profession, and contribute to departmental and university-wide diversity and equity initiatives (https://frenchitalian.washington.edu/diversity-equity-inclusion). Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree, or foreign equivalent, by the start of the appointment. We welcome candidates with pertinent teaching and research experience from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds, including but not limited to literary studies, history, critical area studies such as race, diaspora and gender/sexuality studies, sociology, anthropology, and geography. Candidates working in any period may apply.
