Purpose of Position:
The Department of English at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Professional and Business Writing, effective August, 2022. This position is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment with a nominal teaching load of 4-4. Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and research with undergraduates. Successful candidates will have expertise in professional and technical writing, and business writing. Teaching duties include upper-level writing courses and contributions to the ongoing development of the curriculum.
The Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or a closely related field, is required for appointment. In some cases, exceptionally well-qualified candidates may be considered for appointment at a higher rank and ABD candidates who will not hold the Ph.D. by the time of appointment may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor. Phi Beta Kappa membership is highly desirable. Candidates with experience in service learning, as well as middle and secondary education, are encouraged to apply.
The Department of English at Christopher Newport University is composed of 23 faculty and 124 majors. Housed in McMurran Hall and offering concentrations in literature and writing, the department is adding a minor in journalism, effective Fall 2022.
