The Department of European Languages, Literatures & Cultures at Stony Brook University, in collaboration with the Department of Linguistics and the Program in Globalization Studies and International Relations, are conducting a search for a Lecturer in Arabic.

This position will be central to developing Arabic language and culture instruction at Stony Brook. The position will involve language instruction at the introductory (1st year), intermediate (2nd year), and post-intermediate (3rd year) levels, as well as collaboration with the growing program in Globalization Studies.

Required:

 

  • Candidates must hold a Master's degree in a field relevant to the teaching of Arabic.
  • Candidates must have experience in teaching Arabic at the university level.
  • Candidates must have native or near native fluency in both spoken and written Arabic, including Modern Standard Arabic and at least one dialect.

    Preferred:
  • Preferred qualifications include a doctoral degree in a field relevant to the teaching of Arabic, and at least 3 years of university-level teaching experience.

    This is a full-time appointment with an initial one-year term and the possibility of renewal. Reappointment and retention are contingent upon satisfactory performance evaluations. The salary is $60,000. Lecturers must teach three courses per semester, hold office hours, and participate in curriculum development and assessment.
