Spanish Visiting Assistant Professor & Spanish Full-Time Lecturer

Georgetown College invites applications for two positions in Spanish, beginning Fall 2022: (1) a generalist Visiting Assistant Professor, and (2) a full-time Lecturer. Candidates may be considered for both positions.

Candidates for the Visiting Assistant Professor position should be generalists able to teach widely in current departmental offerings as well as contribute new classes on women and/or minorities in Hispanic literature and/or culture; the ability to teach courses in Professional Spanish and Translation/Interpretation is a plus. This is a one-year position with potential for renewal or eligibility to apply for tenure track. PhD in Spanish preferred (ABD considered) with native/near-native proficiency. Teaching responsibilities will include all levels of Spanish language; qualified applicants may also participate in a first-year great texts course that introduces students to the intellectual tradition while strengthening their college-level critical thinking skills. Teaching load is four courses per semester. The successful candidate must demonstrate expertise in current teaching methodologies as well as a strong record of mentoring students. Candidates for the Lecturer position must possess a master’s degree or eighteen graduate hours and native/near-native proficiency; Ph.D. or ABD preferred. Teaching responsibilities will mostly include Elementary and Intermediate levels of Spanish but may include advanced levels as appropriate; qualified applicants may also participate in a first-year great texts course that introduces students to the intellectual tradition while strengthening their college-level critical thinking skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate expertise in current teaching methodologies as well as a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students. This is a one-year position eligible for renewal. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
