Coordinator of Writing 2-3 (Non-Tenure Track)

The Writing Program at Dartmouth College seeks a Coordinator of Writing 2-3 to join the leadership team of our first-year Writing Program beginning Fall 2022. This benefits-eligible non-tenure track faculty position is responsible for leading and ensuring the quality of Dartmouth’s two-term sequence Writing 2-3 program. The Coordinator of Writing 2-3 works with a small team of faculty and graduate teaching assistants and will also teach two sections of Writing 2-3 each year (four total courses, two in the fall quarter and two in the winter). Depending upon experience, the person holding this position will be appointed either a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer and hold a one-year or multi-year contract.

The Coordinator of Writing 2-3 will be expected to

  • ensure the quality and consistency of Writing 2-3 courses; review and approve syllabi for Writing 2-3; work with the Curriculum Committee to evaluate and update learning objectives, mentor Writing 2-3 faculty, and coordinate and conduct teaching observations.
  • collaborate with the Director of Faculty Development and Assessment to conduct assessments specific to Writing 2-3.
  • hire, oversee, and evaluate TAs;  conduct September training workshops with TAs, as well as weekly one-hour sessions during the fall and winter terms; hold meetings with Writing 2-3 faculty several times a year; and work with the Coordinator for Placement.

Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. (or be ABD with degree in hand by the appointment date, no later than September 1, 2022). They should have administrative experience; possess evidence of excellence in teaching first-year writing courses; strong writing ability; and experience in the training and evaluation of teaching assistants. Consensus building skills, the ability to work very effectively in a team and to collaborate productively are essential, as is an interest in mentoring faculty new to teaching writing.
