The Writing Program at Dartmouth College seeks an Assistant Director to join the leadership team of our first-year Writing Program. This benefits-eligible non-tenure track faculty position is responsible for leading and ensuring the quality of Dartmouth’s first-year writing courses. The Assistant Director of First-Year Writing works with the Director and other administrators to ensure the quality of the Writing Program. The Assistant Director of First-Year Writing will also teach four sections of Writing 5 each year (two sections in the fall and two in the winter). The person holding this position will be appointed a Senior Lecturer and will hold a multi-year contract.

The Assistant Director of First-Year Writing will be expected to
- coordinate writing contests, orientation programs, and develop and update instructional and curriculum material.
- ensure the quality and consistency of First-year Seminars, working with the Curriculum committee to evaluate and update learning objectives, mentor FYS faculty, coordinate teaching observations of WRIT 5 and FYS courses
- collaborate with Assistant Director of Faculty Development and Assessment to conduct assessments specific to WRIT-5 and First-Year Seminars.
The successful candidate will have administrative experience; evidence of excellence in teaching first-year writing courses; strong writing ability; and experience in the training and evaluation of faculty. Consensus building skills, the ability to work very effectively in a team and to collaborate productively are essential, as is an interest in mentoring faculty new to teaching writing.
