Assistant Professor of TESOL

The Department of English at Mississippi State University invites applications for a tenure-track position for assistant professor. Doctorate required in Second Language Studies, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or closely related field (or ABD with degree completed by 8/15/20) with a focus on TESOL pedagogy. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and service, to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.

The successful candidate will carry a 2/2 load in the first year and a 3/2 (or 2/3) load in subsequent years. Teaching assignments will include undergraduate and graduate courses in TESOL pedagogy both face-to-face and online for the TESOL Certificate. The candidate will also be able to build upon existing connections with local public schools, the university’s English Language Institute, and the Mississippi Migrant Education Program. The candidate will have the opportunity to teach other courses as qualified and to develop new courses in their area of specialization. Publications and professional service are required for tenure and promotion. 

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in Second Language Studies, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or a closely related field (or ABD with degree completed by 8/15/20) with a focus on TESOL pedagogy, as well as college teaching experience. Experience teaching English also required, either ESL in the United States and/or EFL abroad. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
