Visiting Assistant Professor in German

The Modern Languages and Literatures discipline at St. Norbert College welcomes applications for a visiting assistant professor in German beginning fall 2022. This is a three-year position, which may transition into a tenure-track position if the German program grows.

Candidates are expected to have their Ph.D. in hand by fall 2022, and be able to demonstrate a solid pedagogical foundation, inclusive teaching experience, excellent language skills, aptitude for program building, and an active scholarly agenda. The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to teach German language, literature and civilization at all levels of an undergraduate curriculum. This position further offers the possibility of teaching a course in one’s area of expertise in English within the College’s core curriculum or as a first-year seminar course. The successful candidate will oversee and continue developing the SPARK-lab for German, which was established in spring 2022. This involves, among assorted pedagogical and logistical responsibilities, facilitating mutual relationships between SNC and neighboring K-12 schools in the region in which undergraduate students—after receiving free training via the Goethe-Institute—provide extracurricular German instruction to K-12 students and in turn earn credits toward the major/minor degree. For more information about the SPARK program, see: http://sparkforgerman.org/college-educators/. Select candidates will be invited to interview via video conferencing.

The division of Academic Affairs at St. Norbert College provides safe, inclusive, and anti-racist educational and work experiences for our faculty, staff, and students of color, congruent with our Catholic, Norbertine, and liberal arts values. Therefore, we invite candidates who have research interests, pedagogical experience, or lived experience that demonstrates a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging to join our community of teaching and learning. We are seeking to hire several new faculty members as a part of a cohort of scholars who are committed to meeting together, working as a group to infuse equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging (EDIB) into the curriculum. This past year we just conducted a national search to hire an inaugural dean of curriculum and senior diversity officer, which highlights the importance of EDIB work and the curriculum.
