Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Rhodes College (Memphis, TN) invites applications for a three-year position as an Assistant Professor of Spanish to begin in August 2022. Rhodes College believes that diversity and inclusion are critical to our success as an institution, and we seek to recruit, develop, and retain the most talented people from a diverse candidate pool. Furthermore, Rhodes College is committed to supporting the work-life balance of its faculty. Applicants should hold or expect to receive a Ph.D. in Spanish or a closely related field, with a specialty in the Spanish-language literatures and cultures of Latin America, the Caribbean, and/or the Latinx world by July 2022.

Duties of the position include teaching courses at all levels of the undergraduate Spanish curriculum: introductory, intermediate, and advanced language courses to non-majors, as well as courses in Latin American and/or Latinx cultures, literatures, film, or sociolinguistics for Spanish majors and minors. The teaching load is 3-3. The applicant will be able to translate their current scholarship into the liberal arts classroom, to demonstrate successful teaching experience, and will have native or near-native fluency in Spanish. Candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary programs such as Latin American and Latinx Studies, Africana Studies, Film and Media Studies, or Gender and Sexuality Studies, among others.
