The Department of English at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, anticipates a limited number of full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer positions to teach business and technical writing and first-year composition courses during the 2022-2023 academic year, with the possibility of teaching creative writing and/or literary studies in future years to meet departmental needs. These positions are one-year appointments and covered by a collective bargaining agreement; renewal of the position is possible and contingent on availability of funding, strong enrollments, and strong performance reviews. Responsibilities include teaching three classes per semester.

All candidates are required to have a PhD degree in English (or other relevant field) or an MFA in Creative Writing, plus a minimum of two years' teaching experience at the college level.  Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate excellence in teaching writing at the college level.

 

Applications must include a teaching-oriented application letter; a CV; and up to three syllabi from business and technical writing and/or composition classes, each no more than four pages in length, that stress assignments, texts, grading policies, and schedules. Strong candidates will articulate teaching philosophies and practices grounded in currently accepted disciplinary best practices; provide detailed examples to demonstrate conscientious, student-centered teaching methods; and provide specific examples of how they emphasize equity, access and inclusion in their classrooms by supporting diverse student populations.
