The Department of German and Russian Studies at the College of Charleston invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor position beginning August 16, 2022. We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated teacher-scholar with demonstrated excellence in teaching German as a foreign language and a strong commitment to equitable and inclusive teaching. The teaching load is 4/4 with two preparations per semester and the opportunity to design and teach an upper level German Studies course or interdisciplinary course in English in the spring of 2023. We are particularly interested in recent or imminent Ph.D.s seeking further experience and applicants with specializations in transnational fields including Black German Studies, Asian German Studies, and Migration Studies.
The position is benefits-eligible; the salary is competitive. A Masters degree in the discipline is required at the time of appointment, Ph.D. preferred, with at least 2 years of collegiate teaching experience. The position requires native or near-native fluency in German and English.
