English FT Faculty - Writing

The Department of English at Brigham Young University announces two continuing faculty status (tenure) professional track positions. We are seeking candidates with experience teaching first-year writing and/or advanced writing courses. Candidate must show evidence of professional development in teaching writing. In addition, preferred qualifications include training and supervising instructors, interest/evidence of service in writing program administration, interest/evidence in WAC/WID programming, and experience teaching multiple types of composition (first-year, persuasive, social sciences, technical, etc.). Required degree: PhD rhetoric, composition, or related field. Required degree must be complete by the start date.

Experience :

Required:

  • Experience in teaching first-year writing and/or advanced writing courses
  • Evidence of professional development in teaching writing

Preferred:

  • A substantial record of excellent teaching in relevant courses
  • Experience in training and supervising writing instructors
  • Interest in or evidence of service or administrative responsibilities in writing program administration
  • Interest in or evidence of participation in WAC/WID programming
  • Experience teaching multiple types of composition including first-year writing, writing about humanities, persuasive writing, writing for education majors, writing in the social sciences, and technical communication

Duties/Expectations: Responsibilities for this professional (not professorial) position include the following:

  • Teach college-level writing courses. Annual teaching load will be 8 courses per year on the semester system, with a typical assignment being 4 classes fall, 3 classes winter, and 1 class spring or summer
  • Assist University Writing leadership with initiatives such as program assessment, course development, instructor training, and annual instructor reviews
  • Participate in composition-related professional development, engage the field’s research, and implement best practices
  • Participate in English department and university citizenship assignments, including committee service
  • Participate in English department faculty meetings and other academic discussions
  • If hired, must reside in the state of Utah
