The Department of French and Francophone Studies at the University of Victoria invites applications for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor with eligilibity for tenure in Francophone African and/or Francophone Carribean Studiesbeginning July 1, 2023.

 

Limited Hire

Specialization

Francophone African and/or Caribbean Studies. The Department is seeking to expand upon its already diverse course offerings and research scholarship with the addition of a scholar focusing on Francophone African and/or Caribbean Studies. Desirable areas of specialization include but are not limited to: Francophone Postcolonial Studies or decolonization, African and/or Caribbean and diasporic literatures, media, and cultures. The Department recognizes and validates the breadth of knowledge in the field, the full range of research methods, and the diversity of effective knowledge mobilization strategies.

 

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate level (language, literature and culture courses) and at the graduate level within their own specialty and supervise Honours and MA students. Further, they will pursue a productive research program, and participate actively in the functions of the Department (programs and course contents, committees, departmental governance).

 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have completed their Ph.D. by the date of appointment in the field of Francophone African and/or Caribbean studies, show a capacity for outstanding research as evidenced by publications or forthcoming publications, or other forms of knowledge mobilization, and demonstrate a potential for excellence in teaching. Candidates must have a native or near-native fluency in French and English.

  3. Sample of publications, not more than three, preferably in French;
  4. One course syllabus in the field of specialization, preferably in French;

  6. Confidential letters from three referees (sent directly as stated below)
