Assistant Professor in English-Non Tenure Track


High Point University’s Department of English invites applications for a non-tenure-track Assistant Professor in English with emphasis in Professional Writing.  MA in English or related field with significant industry experience in professional or technical writing, or an MFA or PhD required. As a comprehensive university with a liberal arts mission, we especially seek applicants who can demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research with undergraduates.

The successful candidate will have teaching experience in professional and/or technical writing with an active research agenda and demonstrated potential for scholarly publication. Desired areas of interest include but are not limited to: technical documentation, print and digital publishing, user experience design, and writing for public audiences. Candidates who are committed to interdisciplinary teaching and research and have relevant teaching experience working with high achieving students (honors classes), First Year Seminar programs (2 classes), or collaborative or project-based approaches (all classes) are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach and develop courses for a minor in Public and Professional Writing. The HPU English Department comprises a collegial group of full-time faculty representing Composition, Technical and Professional Communication, Creative Writing, and Literature who regularly teach general education courses as well as courses in their area of specialization.
