Visiting Assistant Professor

The Missouri Southern State University Department of English and Philosophy invites applications for a full-time visiting assistant professor of creative or professional writing, appointment to begin August 1, 2020, In Joplin, Missouri. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in creative writing, professional writing, or rhetoric prior to August 1, 2020. We seek a candidate who demonstrates success in undergraduate teaching and collegial cooperation who can also serve as faculty sponsor for our student-led publication bordertown. Evidence of scholarly community engagement is also welcome.

Department faculty teach twelve credits per semester; six of them are typically freshman composition. The other six will come from courses in creative writing, professional writing, and general education literature surveys as appropriate to the background of the hire. Duties for this position will include advising, service, and creative or scholarly activity. The rank of visiting assistant professor allows for a total of three years of full-time employment at that rank; during the third year, a tenure-track offer may be made.
