Visiting Assistant Professor of French and Francophone Studies

The Department of French and Francophone Studies at Carleton College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in French (beginning September 1, 2023, with a possibility to extend into a second year). Candidates should have a specialization in pre-20th century literature and culture. Areas of particular interest include critical race theory, gender and queer studies, pre-colonial and early colonial studies, Francophone diaspora, visual studies, disability studies, and ecocriticism. Teaching responsibilities include French language and literature courses from the beginning/intermediate to the advanced seminar level, including a course in the candidate’s area of expertise. The teaching load is 5 courses during the year, spread across three ten-week terms. We encourage applicants with an engaged, dynamic, and communicative teaching style, as well as a demonstrated commitment to scholarly research and publishing.
