Assistant Professor of Spanish

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at UNC Greensboro is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish specializing in 20th- and 21st- century Latin American literatures and cultures or related fields to join the dynamic faculty of our undergraduate and graduate programs in Spanish and those of the eight other language and culture programs we provide. Applicants must hold or anticipate holding a PhD in Spanish Language, Literatures, and Cultures with a specialization in 20th- and 21st- century Latin American literatures and cultures (or related fields) by August 1, 2020.  Preference will be given to candidates having expertise in one or more of the following sub-specialties: Afro-Hispanic and/or Caribbean Studies, Mexican and/or Central American literatures and cultures, and/or Indigenous literatures and cultures.  They should also show a strong research program, evidence of excellent teaching, and a commitment to working with a campus community from diverse backgrounds.  Experience or interest in designing curricula, developing course materials, and/or working with study abroad programs is a plus.  A native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English is required.  Duties will include teaching major- and graduate-level courses in Spanish language and Latin American literatures and cultures (or related fields) and/or sub-specialties, supporting the Spanish program in general, and contributing to other priorities of the Department, the College, and University.  This position may likewise entail supporting UNCG’s Global Village living-learning community, enhancing community engagement, and collaborating with interdisciplinary programs like International and Global Studies, African American and African Diaspora Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies.  UNCG is a Minority Serving Institution, with an undergraduate population of 45% ethnic minority students.
