Associate/Full Professor of German

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at UNC Greensboro is seeking an Associate Professor or Professor of German Studies to begin August 1, 2020.  While the field of specialization is open, the successful candidate should bring expertise that enhances interdisciplinary offerings and attract students from outside German Studies:  e.g., transnationalism/transculturalism, migration studies, translation studies, race/ethnicity, gender and sexuality, media studies, environment and sustainability.  Applicants must hold a PhD in German Studies or German Language, Literatures, and Cultures, or related fields; they must have a native or near-native proficiency in German and English; and they must have attained or anticipate attaining the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure, or an equivalent rank, by August 1, 2020.  Applicants should also have achieved a record of excellence in teaching, maintained a strong research agenda, and acquired extensive administrative experience.  A commitment to working collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and across department programs is likewise a priority. 

Duties will include leading LLC’s German Studies program; teaching undergraduate courses on German language, literatures, and cultures for majors and non-majors at all levels; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the LLC curriculum and, where appropriate, courses in field-related interdisciplinary programs; maintaining an active research agenda; and contributing substantively to priorities of the Department, the College, and University, including ongoing initiatives around diversity and inclusion. This position may likewise entail supporting UNCG’s Global Village living-learning community, enhancing community engagement, and collaborating with interdisciplinary programs like International and Global Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, and Environment and Sustainability.

The position provides a competitive salary and benefits package and a teaching load commensurate with the research agenda and administrative duties of the successful candidate.  In addition, the hire will be with tenure at either the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications.
