GRINNELL COLLEGE – JAPANESE – TENURE-TRACK POSITION (START FALL 2023).
GRINNELL COLLEGE. The Department of Chinese and Japanese invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Japanese beginning Fall 2023. Assistant Professor (Ph.D.) preferred; Instructor (ABD) or Associate Professor possible. The field of specialization is open, but we are especially interested in the candidates with expertise in film studies or linguistics and strong interest in language teaching. Candidates are expected to describe their strategy for building an inclusive classroom composed of students from diverse backgrounds. The teaching load is five courses over two semesters, which includes four language courses and one content course in the candidate’s field of specialization; periodically, one course will be Tutorial (a topical writing/critical thinking course for first-year students, the only College-wide requirement beyond the completion of a major in an individually-advised program). Additional information about our department can be found at https://www.grinnell.edu/academics/majors-concentrations/chinese-japanese.
Grinnell College is a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college with a strong tradition of social responsibility. In letters of application, candidates should discuss their potential to contribute to a college community that maintains a diversity of people and perspectives as one of its core values. To be assured of full consideration, all application materials should be received by November 1. Please visit our application website at https://jobs.grinnell.edu to find more details about the job and submit applications online. Candidates will need to upload a letter of application, curriculum vitae, transcripts (copies are acceptable), and provide email addresses for three references. Questions about this search should be directed to the search chair, Professor Mariko Schimmel, at JapaneseSearch@grinnell.edu or 641-269-3170.
