Literature and Culture of the Global South

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Open Date: Aug 19, 2022
Deadline:

The Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in Literature and Culture of the Global South. We are especially, though not exclusively, interested in applicants whose research and teaching interests focus on issues of economic inequality and class in Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Caribbean, and the intersection of these issues with those of colonialism, race, gender and sexuality. While we welcome scholarship that compares the Global North and South, we are seeking scholars whose work is centered on areas of the Global South itself. Work on all historical periods is welcome.

The position entails teaching two courses per semester; one graduate and three undergraduate courses are taught in a typical year, though graduate teaching every year is not guaranteed. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2023; the Ph.D. is expected by that date.

Applicants should submit the following materials: a cover letter, a two-page dissertation or book abstract, a curriculum vitae, a writing sample (20-25 pages), and three confidential letters of recommendation. Review of applications will begin on October 17, 2022, and continue until the position is filled. Preliminary interviews will be conducted by Zoom.
