This post is full time (35 hours per week) and is offered on an open-ended basis.

The School of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Glasgow is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader in Comparative Literature from January 2023, or earlier if possible.

The School is seeking to expand and diversify its research profile and range of taught courses in Comparative Literature at all levels. We are home to a successful and popular undergraduate Comparative Literature programme, which has recently added a Single Honours degree pathway. We have a rapidly growing Taught Masters degree, and a recently established Research Centre in Comparative Literature and Translation.

You will be expected to hold a PhD in any field of Comparative Literature, and should possess native or near-native language skills in English, as well as excellent speaking and written skills in at least one other European or non-European language. Applications are invited from candidates with the relevant expertise in any area of Comparative Literature, and we are keen to receive applications from candidates with a background in Arabic or East Asian studies.

The post is open on the Research and Teaching (R&T) track. As such the post-holder will develop, lead and sustain research of international standard in Comparative Literature. The post-holder will pursue and deliver independent research proposals and/or collaborative research projects, secure external funding, project manage research activities, develop pathways to Impact, and supervise doctoral students.

The successful candidate will be an experienced teacher at all levels, and will be expected to contribute to modules in both Comparative Literature and Translation Studies.
