We seek a scholar with demonstrated potential for a strong international profile in the theoretical and interdisciplinary humanities, whose work traverses the domains of word, image, and sound, and employs, at its foundation, a global, comparative, and transnational perspective. Areas of specialization may include: the relations between digital and analog as well as between “new” and “old” media; media and the Marxist critique of political economy; media and postcolonial/global South studies and/or critical race/ethnic studies; the mutual constitution of film, literature, visual arts and other forms and practices as media; the role of media in music and sound; philosophical and theoretical genealogies of mediation; and the centrality of media to the interplay between aesthetics and politics. We invite applications from scholars employing a range of methods—theoretical, historical, textual, and/or ethnographic—as well as experimental, practice-informed approaches.
