Assistant Professor in Literary Arts, emphasis in Fiction

The Department of Literary Arts at Brown University invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position, with an emphasis in fiction, beginning July 1st, 2023.

Candidates should preferably have an MFA or equivalent, a strong publication record, including at least one book of fiction, and demonstrate excellence and innovation in teaching fiction at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We seek candidates with additional expertise in areas such as hybrid genre, international literature, translation, literary theory, film/video, and/or digital arts and are particularly interested in works that pertain to issues of gender, race, and ethnicity, and specifically those that intersect with Indigenous, Latinx, or African American communities. Duties of the position include teaching fiction as well as elective seminars/workshops and literature courses, directing undergraduate and graduate theses, advising undergraduate and graduate students, and contributing to the creative and intellectual life of the department through individual and collaborative initiatives.
