The Department of World Languages and Cultures (WLC) at Elon University invites applications for the position of Lecturer of Spanish beginning August 2023. The ideal candidate will be an exemplary teacher with a master’s degree or Ph.D. in Spanish or a related field, with native or near-native proficiency in Spanish. Interested applicants should demonstrate high levels of collegiality and the ability to contribute to a vibrant and growing Spanish section and highly collaborative World Languages department that is home to eight languages.

Elon faculty members are teacher-scholars who place teaching at the forefront of what they do and who also engage in student mentoring. Fundamental requirements of the position will include teaching 26-28 hours per year in a content-oriented curriculum that aims to integrate language and authentic cultural exploration at all levels of instruction. Successful candidates will also demonstrate academic rigor in their teaching and active engagement in course and curricular design. An ability to teach our innovative pre-, during, and post-study abroad reflection courses, taught in English and required for all WLC majors studying abroad, is desirable, as well as interest in teaching first-year (in English or Spanish) or capstone classes (in English) in Elon’s Core Curriculum program. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people and who can contribute to a climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.

Applicants should send a one to two-page cover letter, a one-page description of their teaching philosophy, current CV, three letters of recommendation that speak to their teaching, and up to three course syllabi from various levels to ElonWLCSearch2022@elon.edu. Finalists will need to provide graduate transcripts prior to the campus visit. Complete applications must be submitted electronically by midnight Eastern Standard Time on October 28th, 2022 to be assured full consideration. This position is a renewable nine-month non-tenure line appointment at the rank of Lecturer, with a continuance review after 4 years and the opportunity to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer after 6 years.
