Assistant Professor - Italian Studies

Position Description

The Department of French and Italian at The University of Texas at Austin seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Italian Studies, to begin fall semester of academic year 2023-24. The position is open to any period, though preference will be given to candidates with a strong background and research agenda in environmental humanities, medical humanities, and/or Italy’s global relations (literary, political, cultural, historical) with Africa, the Americas and beyond. Additional preferred areas of expertise include gender studies, queer studies, and/or critical race theory. We seek colleagues seeking to connect and collaborate with students and colleagues across the campus with opportunities for doing so in Comparative Literature, History, African/African Diaspora Studies, Mediterranean Studies, Asian Studies, European Studies, International Relations and Global Studies, Sustainability Studies, Art History, Anthropology, and Women’s and Gender Studies. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service to the Department.

 

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. for appointment as Assistant Professor or expect to obtain it within a year of joining the faculty as Instructor. Candidates are expected to have native or near-native fluency in Italian, to demonstrate excellence in research, publication, and teaching, and have the ability to effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses, both in English and in Italian.
