The Department of Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, and Russian Studies at Colorado College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Japanese Studies to commence in August 2023.
Requirements include a Ph.D. in Japanese Studies or related field and native or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English. A record of strong teaching potential preferred. Teaching assignments typically include 6 courses per year at the college’s block plan, including all levels of Japanese language as well as topics courses in the candidate’s area of interest (for more information on the block plan, please see: www.coloradocollege.edu/basics/blockplan). The area of specialization is open, but the successful candidates should be able to make connections to at least one area beyond Japanese studies itself, such as environmental studies, feminist and gender studies, queer studies, race and ethnic studies, or film and media studies. Successful candidates are expected to contribute to the Asian Studies program. They should also demonstrate commitment to continue to build the Japanese program by working closely with students and engaging them through co-curricular and community-building programming such as activities at the Asian Languages House, field trips, or other events. While applicants are not required to teach abroad, potential and interest would be preferred.
Colorado College and the Japanese Program are strongly committed to antiracism, diverse perspectives and inclusive and equitable practices and policies. Candidates should indicate their commitment to ADEI (antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion) in their application materials and can find information about our commitment to antiracism here: https://www.coloradocollege.edu/other/antiracism-commitment/
