The Department of Italian Studies at Connecticut College seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor in Italian Studies to start in July of 2023. We seek a colleague with specialization in Medieval / Early Modern Italian literature and culture with a transnational and interdisciplinary focus and who is enthusiastic about working with undergraduate students in a liberal arts context. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and research and will join a thriving program of committed teachers and scholars.
Minimum Qualification: PhD in Italian Studies (Medieval/Early Modern specialization) or related discipline by time of appointment. Native or near-native Italian and fluency in English are required. Evidence of active research agenda and commitment to best pedagogical practices and teaching with technologies are also required.
Desired Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate excellence in teaching Italian language and culture courses at all levels, who can demonstrate ability to offer cross-disciplinary courses in English that integrate the study of the Italian Middle Ages within the Connections GE program of the College (for information see https://www.conncoll.edu/connections/), and have familiarity with First-Year Seminars. Candidates with interdisciplinary interests in medical humanities, Mediterranean studies, and medievalism are particularly desirable. Demonstrated ability to inspire students to study Italian beyond the required elementary series is a plus.

Tenure-track faculty members teach a 3-2 load (2-2 in the first year). In addition to providing ongoing strong support for teaching and research, the College offers the following resources for pre-tenured faculty: a supplementary research fund and a semester’s sabbatical at full salary after a successful third-year review.
